Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite goes global, arrives first in France, Ukraine

Last month Xiaomi announced the Mi 8 Lite as a more affordable option of its flagship series, but the phone was introduced only on the Chinese market. It eventually made its way to Ukraine and now Donovan Sung, global spokesperson of the company, said on Twitter France is also getting the Lite variant of the Mi 8 and other markets will follow soon.

The device was initially introduced in a gradient Twilight Gold, Dream Blue, and a more clean Deep Space Gray colors. It looks like all three options will hit the global scene since Sung is preparing us for “some colorful mixes”.

The device arrived initially in three memory configurations – 4/64 GB, 6/64 GB, and 6/128 GB. Prices were respectively CNY1,399, CNY1,699, and CNY1,999. This translates from $205/€175 to $290/€250, but we expected slightly higher price in Europe and other markets after taxes and import duites are levied.

Vivo adds a new color to the vivo X23 – Star Edition

The vivo X23 has been out since early September in Magic Blue, Phantom Purple and Phantom Red and today vivo has added a new Star Edition option to the mix.

The new color option features a light to dark red gradient finish with vertical colored stripes along the back.

The vivo X23 Start Edition is now available for pre-order at a price of CNY 3,500 (€440) with a shipping date yet to be assigned.

Color aside, the Star Edition is the same vivo X23 that’s been out from early September. It houses a 6.41-inch Super AMOLED screen with an embedded in-display fingerprint scanner, a Snapdragon 670 with up to 8GB of RAM, a 3,400mAh battery and three cameras – a dual 12MP f/1.8 + 13MP f/2.4 and a 12MP front-facing camera.

Apple iPhone XR sold 9 million units in its opening weekend, still short of predictions

According to data obtained by Rosenblatt Securities analyst Jun Zhang, Apple sold around 9 million iPhone XR units in the phone’s opening weekend.

Those are some stellar numbers but ones that fall short of said analyst’ prediction of 10 million units.

Because of this Zhang has trimmed his estimates for the production of the new iPhones in November and December from 90 million units to 88 million.

Despite the slightly underwhelming sales figures (according to Zhang’s sources), the analyst still expects Apple to have a record breaking holiday quarter. He forecasts better than $91 billion in revenue thanks to the new iPhone’s higher average selling price and the expected new iPad Pro and Macbook models, which Apple will unveil on October 30.

Lenovo Z5 Pro to have 24 MP + 16 MP main dual camera

Lenovo is introducing the flagship Z5 Pro in two days that will have a massive screen-to-body ratio and slider form factor similar to the Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 and the Honor Magic 2. The company VP and former president of ZUK Chang Cheng introduced the main camera setup the device will have – dual AI snappers with 24 MP and 16 MP sensors.

The phone’s tagline is, roughly translated as “An Epochal Flagship” and it will have one of the most advanced cameras in a Lenovo smartphone. The 24 MP + 16 MP setup will have AI Super Night Mode scene and AI Video, according to Cheng who posted a teaser on Weibo.

The image also confirms there will be two selfie shooters in the slider, positioned on both sides of the speaker, while the proximity sensor will be slightly right from the camera setup. The teased photo on the image reveals clear details in low-light environment.

Although we are not sure if the image as real, the watermark in the lower left corner surely suggests the new Lenovo Z5 Pro will snap similarly vibrant images. All we have to do is wait until November 1 when the official event is taking place.

OnePlus 6T durability test: scratches don’t bother the in-display fingerprint reader

The OnePlus 6T was unveiled just minutes ago and it already had to face the JerryRigEverything durability test. Not just that, Zack was at the event in New York and he disassembled the phone in front of a live audience.

Back to the durability test. The phone has Gorilla Glass 6 on the front, which gets minor scratches at a level 6 and deeper ones at level 7 of the Mohs’ scale. The thing to worry about here is that the in-display fingerprint reader needs a clear view of your finger through the glass. The good news is that it seems undeterred and works just fine even with a badly scratched glass.

What about the glass on the back? The Midnight Glass back has a frosted finish and softer metals leave traces that can be wiped off. Harder metal will leave permanent scratches, however, so you still need to be careful.

The video concludes with the bend test – how tough is the OnePlus 6T? Well, we don’t want to spoil the ending, so hit play.

Xiaomi Black Shark Helo goes on sale early

Xiaomi’s Black Shark Helo gaming phone was announced a week ago and the release date was supposed to be November 10, but it appears that the handset is arriving a bit early. A lot earlier, in fact.

In a Weibo post, Lei Jun, Xiaomi’s founder, announced that the official Mi online store will start selling the phone as early as today. The flash sale begins at 8PM local time and as far as we can tell from the post, it’s the second one for today.

Unfortunately, the 10GB version is still nowhere to be found and the store is offering the 8GB/128GB and the 6GB/128GB configurations only. The 6GB model will sell for CNY 3,199 ($459) while the asking price of the 8GB alteration is CNY 3,499 ($502). Just make sure you are one of the first in line because stock won’t last.

AnTuTu: The OnePlus 6T is second fastest Android smartphone

Following last night’s launch event, AnTuTu published a screenshot of a OnePlus 6T score sheet with pretty impressive results. The overall score is 298,011, which is an improvement over the OnePlus 6’s average score of around 289,424, despite the two phones packing identical chipsets.

Last month’s AnTuTu global ranking placed the OnePlus 6 in the third position right after Asus’ ROG Phone and Xiaomi Black Shark. But the OnePlus 6T is here to disrupt the charts – the screenshot says it takes second place, right behind the ROG Phone.

In any case, the score appears to be in line with what we got during our testing of the handset and we also have to see how the Mate 20s will perform with the new Kirin 980 on board. We can’t wait to see the November ranking.

ZTE to bring four smartphones in India

ZTE had a rough couple of months after it breached US trade regulations, but is finally back on track and even managed to launch a hot flagship on the Android One program – the Axon 9 Pro.

According to reports, the phone will arrive in India along with three cheaper devices from the manufacturer – Blade A7 Vita, Blade V9 Vita, and Blade V9.

ZTE Axon 9 Pro

The Blade trio will be part of “an aggressive comeback in the country” and will arrive as early as November. The Blade A7 Vita will cost less than INR6,000 (about $80/€70), the Blade V9 Vita will be slightly more expensive – INR8,000 ($110/€85), while the bigger and more powerful Blade V9 will be around INR15,000 ($205/€180).

The ZTE Axon 9 Pro will appear in India in December for under INR35,000, which is equal to $475/€420. The price is similar to some of the cheapest Snapdragon 845-powered devices in India like the LG G7 ThinQ and the Asus Zenfone 5Z, but still nowhere near the INR21,000 price tag of the Poco F1 by Xiaomi.
